COLLAPSED IN SURF.
Woman, aged 73 Years, Dies
at New Brighton
Though she was under the care and attention of a doctor and nurse because of a weakness of the heart, Airs Ada At’Kenzie, aged 73 years, went for her usual swim at New Brighton this morning. Half an hour later she was found lying dead in a few inches of water. Dr Stevens was called, and gave the cause of death as heart failure. It is surmised that Mrs M’Kenzie collapsed as soon as she entered the water.
Airs M’Kenzie, who lives with her mother, aged 93 years, at 24, Lonsdale Street, New Brighton, had been receiving medical attention for some time but had rarely missed her morning swim. She w r ent down to the beach at 9 o’clock this morning, and a short time afterwards Mr J. A. Lye, going along the beach, saw her lying in a few inches of water. It was at first thought that she was drowned. No inquest will be necessary.
