ATHLETICS.

Amateurs Compete in Inter-Club Events. SOME GOOD PERFORMANCES The third round of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Association’s interclub competition was held at the Technical College grounds, Ensor’s Road, this afternoon in dull weather. The racing was the best seen during the series of matches that have been held so far. In the hurdle events there was some pretty racing. Barwell (Canterbury) showed plenty of pace and perfect action to return the standard time of 16 4-ssec. Neville (Sumner) sprang a mild surprise in beating Lunn (Varsity), who could only run into third place. In the shot put, Dawson (Varsity) registered a performance that beat the standard (34ft.) by one foot. Smith (Old Boys) covered 20ft in the long jump, failing to reach the standard by only six inches. There was some keen racing in the 100 yards events, and fast times were recorded with the aid of a following wind. Results:— A GRADE. SUMNER v. VARSITY. Putting the Shot—H. M. S.
