SCHOOL BREAK-UPS.

Prizes at Opawa. The annual prizegiving ceremony took place at the Opawa School on Friday. In the morning the school was visited by Father Christmas, when each child in the infant department received a present from a gaily decorated Christmas tree. There was a large attendance of parents and friends of the school. In the afternoon the prizes were presented by Mr J. M’Combs, M.P. In addition to the class prizes, a large number of certificates, swimming and sports prizes were also distributed. The following is the prize list:— Form ll.—Dux, Ken Abernethy: class prizes, Noel Pope 2, Norma Low 3; progress, Edna Haylock; diligence (presented by Mr J. M’Combs, M.P.,), Howard Thomas; special prizes presented by Mrs Gwatkin, Percy Heard; agriculture, Jack Maginness. Form I.—First merit. Edward Furby: second merit, Alan Robinson; third merit, Lawrence Scott; notebooks, Jean Wilshire, Ivan Thompson; gardening, Alan Boyce and C. Houlton. Standard TV.—First merit, Esma Higgott; second merit, William Melbourne; third merit, Alison Stewart. Specials— Geography scrap book, William Melbourne; nature study notebook, Charles Stafford.
