The South Africans won the toss in the second test match against Australia, but quickly lost any advantage that they might have gained from that factor, when five good wickets fell before lunch for 62. The innings was completed for 153. The bowling was always accurate, and Grimmett was very deadly. With the Australians at the wickets the sensations continued, Ponsford being bowled round the legs with the total at six. Woodfull and Rigg then batted steadily till stumps were drawn. MATCH RESUMED. There was a sensation in the Sheffield Shield match when Gilbert, the Queensland aboriginal bowler, was no-balled eight times in two overs. The umpire declared that he had thrown the ball. A controversy as to whether Gilbert throws the ball or not has been raging in cricket circles all the season.
