NO DAYLIGHT FERRY TRIPS
Usual Shipping Timetable at Holiday Period. For the first time for several years there will be no daylight trips and no extra sailings in the Lyttelton-Welling-ton ferry service at Christmas. There are also fewer special sailings in the Nelson and Picton ferry services. The rush should set in early in the coming week; The Union Company does not anticipate any traffic increase over that of last year, and in view of the fact that the new turbo-electric ferry steamer Rangatira carries approximately 300 more passengers than did the Maori, considers that the Wahine and Rangatira can, on their ordinary timetable running, cope with the holiday rush. In the Wellington-Nelson service also there will be no extra sailings. The Arahura, which resumed recently after having been laid up over the winter owing to the falling-off in the passenger traffic, and the Matangi will maintain their usual running, with the exception that there will be no sailing from either Wellington or Nelson on
