FATAL SMASH.
Driver says He must have Dozed. TRAGEDY AFTER DANCE. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N., December 19. About three o’clock this morning si motor accident occurred on Milson’s line resulting in the death of Val Hewitt, aged nineteen, a bookbinder. The driver was Stewart Bramwell, and the other occupants were Dala Hewitt, sister of the deceased, -and Madge Howell. The party was returning from a dance in the Stanway School. Bramwell states that he must have dozed off, awakening to find the car on the wrong side of the road ten yards from the Mangaone bridge. He endeavoured to swing the car to the centre of the road, but the side struck the bridge and was badly damaged. Hewitt apparently was killed instantly. Mise Howell was removed to hospital su£* fering from cuts about the face. Bramwell sustained minor injuries. Miss Hewitt was not injured.
