Farewell to the Rev A. C. Purchas. At the conclusion of the prize distribution of the Lyttelton District High School, Mr W. T. Lester, actingchairman, on behalf of the School Committee, presented the Rev A. C. Purchas with a set of pipes, and in so doing he expressed the commitee’s appreciation of his work as chairman of the School Committee. Members regretted that the Rev Mr Purchas was leaving Lyttelton, but Lyttelton’s loss would be Rangiora’s gain. First Child Born in Ward. On Thursday evening Mr W. T Foster, representative of the Lyttelton district on the North Canterbury Hospital Board, waited on Mr and Mrs L. Radonovitch at their home and, on behalf of the chairman, Mr H. J. Otley, presented their baby son, Geoffrey, with a silver cup, suitably inscribed, to record the fact that the child was the first to be born in the new maternity ward at Lyttelton.
