Presentation to Retiring Postmaster. POPULAR OFFICIAL. Mr J. N. Neville, who has been postmaster at Lyttelton for the past six years, retired on superannuation yesterday. He was met by the staff of the Lyttelton Post Office yesterday afternoon and presented with a barometer. In making the presentation Mr S. H. Mason, acting-postmaster, referred to the good feeling that had existed between Mr Neville and the staff, who at all times had had the highest respect for their principal. He wished Mr Neville good health and a happy future. In responding, Mr Neville remarked that it w T as perhaps unique that he should have commenced in the service of the Post and Telegraph Department at Lyttelton as messenger, and after serving in different parts of the Dominion, he should come back to finish up at the same office. Presentation to Head. Master. At the prize-giving social of the West Lyttelton School last evening the head master, Mr J. T. O. Stephens was the recipient of two presentations as a mark of appreciation of his work during the year and his success in gaining 100 per cent of passes in the proficiency examinations. On behalf of the school committee, Mr E. Weastell presented Mr Stephens with a silver cigarette case, and on behalf of the parents of (the pupils who gained their proficiency certificates Mr F. E. Sutton presented him with a gold-mounted fountain pen, suitably inscribed. Swimming Club. Swimming races which were to have been held last Saturday afternoon at the Corsair Bay baths under the auspices of the Lyttelton Amateur Men’s Swimming Club will be held tomorrow with the exception of the 220 yards handicap. The programme will include 50 yards breast stroke championship, 50 yards handicap, 25 yards schoolboys’ race, and a diving competition. School Concert. The pupils of Standard IV. of the Lyttelton District High School held a successful concert to raise gifts for the orphanages and needy children. A large quantity of jams and jellies, numerous toys, and gifts was sent to the Lyttelton Ministers’ Association, the Presbyterian Social Service Depot, and the Children’s Ward of the Christchurch Hospital.
