PIGEON FLYING.

Canterbury Club Decides Races. The Canterbury Pigeon Plying Club recently held a race from Feilding, 137 birds representing nineteen owners. The lofts were divided into two sections, East and West. The birds were liberated by Mr G. Malcolmson at 7.30 a.m. in fine weather and a nor’-west wind, which changed to a strong nor’-easter at the home end. The birds put up fairly fast times. The winner, from the Western loft, Mr A. Stone’s Bird No. 128. flew the distance of 280 miles 1259 yards air line in 7hr 44min 23sec. Following were the velocities:— Western Section. Yds. per min. A. Spencer’s No. 781 1021 H. Rule’s No. 371 1003 F. Dunne’s No. 350 1000 P. Chambers’s No. 327 993 J. Luke’s No. 369 986 E. French’s No. 4 83 983 M. Brown’s No. 592 934 Eastern Section. Yds. per min. C. Martin’s No. 294 1052 R. Moore’s unrung 1045 G. Robertson’s No. 71 ...... 1040 A. Buckley’s No. 202 1001 G. Anderson’s No. 126 1001 F. lvingsford’s No. 11 992 R. Moore won the nominated bird prize. Dannevirke Race. The club also flew another race from Dannevirke on the same day, fortyseven birds representing eleven owners. The birds were liberated by Mr J. C. Wilkinson at 7.30 a.m. in fine, weather. A strong nor’-east wind enabled the birds to put up fair times. The winner was Dr M’Killop’s No. 478, which flew the distance of 299 miles 1683 yards air
