(Special to the "Star”) AUCKLAND, September 2. At the morning call holders of tax frees were willing to sell at £97 15s, but the best offer to buy was at £94 los for 5£ per cents, the highest bid being £96 for both 33’s and 37’s. A parcel of 33’s was on offer at £99 and one of 37’s at £96 10s. New Zealand Insurance changed hands at £l 17s. the lowest level for a considerable period, after which buyers stopped at £l 16s 9d. A group of three companies has been registered in Sydney, with an aggregate capital of over £12,000,000. The main company, the Britannia Insurance Company, Ltd., has a capital of £12,000,000 in 1,200,000 shares of £lO each, while the other two companies, the Britannia Trust Company. Ltd., and the Imperial Investment Company, Ltd., have capitals of £IO,OOO and £SOOO respectively. Mr J. M. Wilcox, who is acting as agent for the companies, stated that he was not yet at liberty to disclose the names of his clients. They were, he said a group of British financiers, who believed that there were opportunities for the profitable investment of capital in Australia. A large portion of the authorised capital of the Britannia Insurance Company, Ltd., Mr M llcox added, had already been subscribed by them, and the company was expected to commence operations within a few weeks. The other two companies would act as subsidiaries.
