Beef Values Decline Sharply. FAT SHEEP FIRM. Values for fat cattle were easier » f the Metropolitan Market at Addington to-day. The yarding was fairly large, and the quality mixed. There was a distinct falling off in the quality of the fat sheep offered, hut there was a good demand and prices over the earlier stages of the sale were about on a par with those of last week. Pat Cattle. The entry was 380 head in the fat cattle section as compared with 318 at the last market. The quality was more mixed than at recent sales, with a bigger proportion of secondary and unfinished sorts. The market opened to a keen demand with values on a par with those ruling last week, but before half the auction had been completed there was a sharp easing in values. It amounted to up to £1 a head for all classes. The demand was much easier. There were over sixty head of North Island steers forward. The principal sales were:—On account of Miss 1. and A. M. The quality was not as good as that of the yardlngs of the previous number of weeks. Over the early stages of the sale there was a firming tendency for lighter wethers. Gardiner (Rakaia), 65 ewes at 15s 4d to 16s lOd; W. J. Doyle (Doyleston). 68 ewes at 12s lOd to 16s lOd; R. D. Miller (Metliven), 60 wethers at 14s lOd to 16s 7d; G. Mulligan (Tinwald). 59 withers at 16s 4d to 18s Id. Spring iambs. Eight spring lambs were entered, compared with four last week. They sold well, the top price being 34s Id, paid for one on account of J, D. Henderson (Halkett). The same vendor sold one at 345, one at 33s lOd and one at 28s lOd. Four were sold on account of the Paparua Prison Farm at 23s 6d. 25s 6d. 27s and 30s 6d. Store Sheep. Entries of store sheep were numerically on a nav with last week, but the quality generally .showed a slight improvement. Several good small lines were down from Sheffield and for these competition was moderately keen. With the exception of one line the entry comprised ewe2 in lamb. Half-breds predominated, the top price being 17s paid for 177 two-tooths and for the first runoff of a line of 141 well-grown twotooth ewes. Less attractive lines met a dragging sale, there being no appreciable change in values. Values were:— Good two-tooth half-bred ewes 15s Gd to 17s. Good sound-moutH half-bred ewes 13s 6d to 14s Id. Sound-mouth half-bred ewes 9s to 12s lid. Six and eight-tooth three-quarter-bred ewes to 14s 9d. Forward six-tooth wethers to 13s lOd. Sales we*e:— Ewes—464 s.m. half-bred at 10s; 177 two-tooth half-bred at 17s; 91 two, four and six-tooth half-bred at 10s 7d; 70 s.m. half-bred at 9s; 266 s.m. halfbred at 13s 7d to 14s Id; 102 s.m. halfbred at 9s 4d; 116 s.m. half-bred at 12s lid; 141 two-tooth half-bred at 15s fid to 17s; 33 six and eight-tooth three-quarter-bred at 14s 9d; 122 s.m. Romney cross at 13s 6d; 61 two-tooth crossbred at 14s 3d. Wethers—63 six-tooth half-bred at 13s lOd. Vsalers. There was a larger yarding of vealers than has been the case for some time. However, the quality of a proportion of the entry was so poor that it had to be removed' to the store section. The remainder sold at values on a par with late rates. The top price for the market was £6.
