COST OF LIVING SHOWS DECLINE IN AUSTRALIA.
United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received July 23, 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, July 23. The Commonwealth Statistician’s figures show that the cost of living declined by up to 3s a week in the quarter ended June 30, and the basic wage will be reduced accordingly. The drops will be: Is 6d a week in Sydney, 3s in Melbourne, 6d in Brisbane, 2s 6d in Adelaide, Is in Perth and 2s in Hobart, less the 10 per cent wage cut made by the Arbitration Court in some industries.
