THICK ICE PRESENTS DANGER TO MOTORISTS.

(Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, July 22.

Motorists using the main highway along the foothills are warned of the danger existing at the northern end of the bridge over the north branch of the Ashburton River on account of a thuck coating of ice which covers the road for about half a chain. It is about two inches in thickness and presents a danger to traffic from the south on account of the affected portion being on a bend close to the bridge. Several motorists have had narrow escapes and until a thaw sets in users of the road are well advised to comply with the notice on the southern end of the bridge, “speed limit ten miles.”
