LINWOOD STAGE GREAT GAME WITH ADDINGTON

The League Rugby M’Keon Cup competition ended this afternoon, Addington proving the winners. They had to fight hard to come out on top in the final game, Linwood putting up a great fight, especially in the second half. Addington were victors by 24 points to 22. Hornby had little difficulty with the depleted Sydenham team and won by 34 to 3. ADDINGTON V. LINWOOD. Bright play marked the opening of the Addington-Linwood game, at Monica Park, although both teams began short. Mel Smith, Linwood full-back, had to retire with a head injury near the start. The teams were made up to full strength and the Addington backs began to shine, Campbell, J. Amos and Falgar making snappy runs. Peddie let the ball out to the Addington rearguard and it travelled to O'Connell. Campbell, first five-eighth, came round to score at the corner. The kick missed. Addington 3, Linwood 0. Then Jorgensen, Linwood’s star winger, secured at half way, tricked full-back M’Garry beautifully and scored under the posts and converted. Linwood 5, Addington 3. Addington came back and J. HORNBY V. SYDENHAM. Sydenham fielded only twelve men, and shortly after the start of the game, C. Campbell was injured and had to go off. The game was ragged from the start, but Hornby soon got going, and a fine forward rush saw Loach, pick up and dive over. JPalamountain converted. Hornby 5, Sydenham 0. The game was fast but very broken, the wind helping Hornby considerably. The Hornby forwards were going well, and soon took the .ball well downfield, wjiere •C. Stuart Secured. He put in a' tricky run and scored. Palamountain made no mistake with his kick. The game continued ragged, but with Hornby constantly on the attack. Shortly before half-time, Gilbert got possession close to the Sydenham line, and dived over. Palamountain again converted, making the score at half-time: Hornby 15, Sydenham 0. The game did not improve in the second half, hut Hornby found the going harder against the wind. The spell was not long in progress before Wilkie collected and handed on to Howson, who scored. Wilkins goaled. Hornby 20, Sydenham 0. Sydenham put in a determined effort, but Loach, securing almost in his own twenty-five, ran right down the field to score. The kick failed.
