INQUIRIES.

It is pointed out that unless the name and address of the writer is'attached to every inquiry the questions cannot be acknowledged. The name is not for publication and if no nom de plume is supplied, one is very easily provided that will give enquirers an inkling that their questions have received a reply. The name should be given as an evidence of bona tides, the address is necessary as indicating the district and soil. The editor of this column, Mr D. Combridge, has resided in Christchurch for twenty years, and has a good knowledge of many of the soils in the various city and suburban areas. The address will therefore afford some information to him that the writer might easily have overlooked to provide. Letters are always handled In rotation and should be in the “ Times ” Office before Thursday evening to receive a reply the following Wednesday morning, appearing also in the next Saturday's issue of the “ Star.” The directions regarding forwarding specimens must be observed if the best service is to be expected. Often specimens arrive in a very crushed and unrecognisable condition.
