GREYMOUTH HOSPITAL BOARD HAS MEETING.

(Special to the ** Star.”) GREYMOUTH, June 19;

The monthly meeting of the Grey Hospital Board was held last evening, Mr J. W. Hannan presiding. It was decided to call fresh tenders for the supply of meat for a further three months. The Blackball Medical Association wrote regarding maintenance fees owing, and offering to pay when the miners resume work. The chairman stated that £157 was owing and the question was whether the board should stop the association’s contract at the end of June, or allow it to run on. It was decided to allow the contract to run on for three months on the understanding of the Blackball Medical Association to pay the arrears. Regarding the question of having the hospital laundry work done by an outside laundry, the visiting committee after going fully into the matter, recommended that, as there was so little saving, no change be made. The recommendation was adopted.

The chairman was appointed as Hospital Board representative to attend the meeting of the U nemployment Committee to be held to-morrow.

The following gifts were gratefully received: Birch from Mr Hibbs, Camerons ; magazines from Mrs Davis, Marsden Road; books and old linen from Mrs Spencer, Cobden; books from Mrs Oxenham, Greymouth. Technical High School.

A meeting of past and senior pupils, members of the Board of Governors, parents and friends and the staff of the Technical School was held last evening, Mr J. Hutton presiding, to consider the erection of a school social hall. The meeting came to the conclusion that the present time was not opportune for a public appeal for funds necessary to erect the hall. A committee consisting of three members of the Old Pupils’ Association, three members of the Board of Governors, three members of the teaching staff, and three senior prefects was set up to consider what steps should be taken at the earliest favourable opportunity to raise the necessary funds. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the committee that they commence their activities in June, July and August of next year by holding a queen carnival. The project will take several years to complete. The new building will be an assembly hall so built and equipped that it could be used as a social hall, with provision for dances, dramatic performances and debating competitions and so on.
