Ministerial. The Mnister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore, left on his return to Wellington last evening. Mr E. A. Earp, Government Chief Apiarist, left to-day for Dunedin. Messrs H. C. Newman (Hokitika) and P. W. Maddock (Wellington) are guests at Warner’s Hotel. Mr Dan Reese, a member of the Railway Board, arrived from the north this morning. Messrs W. D. Gower and T. A. Mahon, of Lyttelton, have been appointed Justices of the Peace. Messrs H. Roads (Auckland) and S. T. Musgrove (Hawke’s Bay) are staying at the Royal Hotel. Visitors to the New City Hotel include Mr G. Newey (Dunedin) and Mr N. Firth (Auckland). Mr Justice Adams arrived in Christchurch from the West Coast last evening. He will preside at a sitting of the Supreme Court here on Monday. Messrs A. Iv. Jackson (Auckland), P. W. Buckleton (Wellington) and P. W. Pankhurst (Sydney) are guests at the United Service Hotel. The retirement on superannuation of Mr G. W. R. Davidson, Assistant Chief Engineer of Railways, is announced, after thirty-three years’ service. Dr C. E. W. Bean, Australian official war historian, has been awarded the Cliesney Medal by the council of the Royal United Service Institute for his official history of the war. The Gazette announces that FlightLieutenant J. L. Findlay, of the Air Force, is to be Squadron-Leader. Lieutenant-Colonel W. H. Fletcher, from the reserve of officers, is to be Lieutenant-Colonel and posted to the First Battalion Wellington Regiment. Squadron-Leader N. E. Chandler (Air Force) has been transferred to the reserve of officers. The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) has appointed the following to be members of the Rules Committee pursuant to section 2 of the Judicature Amendment Act, 1930, for the period ending December 31, 1933: Mr Justice Reed, Mr Justice M’Gregor, Mr Justice Ostler, Mr Justice Blair, Messrs Alexander Gray, K.C. (Wellington), Wilfred J. Sim, barrister and solicitor (Christchurch), and Professor Henry H. Cornish, barrister (Wellington). The Rules Committee was established under the Judicature Amendment Act, 1930, for the purpose of altering or revoking the rules governing the procedure in all matters before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.
