DOG TRIALS.

ASHBURTON COLLIE CLUB. (Special to the “Star.”) ASHBURTON, June IS. The Ashburton Collie Dog Club opened its annual clog trials on the racecourse to-day, when there was a fair attendance. The visibility was good. There was very little difference in the merits of the performances of the placed dogs in the long pull which wa* concluded and in which there were thirtv-four entries. The trials will be continued to-day. Results were:— HEADING. BRINGING BACK AND HOLDING IN RING; about 500 yards. Three sheep. Time limit S minutes. Total points 40. G. Parker’s George, 36 points 1 K. M'Lennan's Thorn. 35J points .. 2 R. Wilson’s Mack, 35 points 3 C. Parker’s Bell, 34} points _.3 Judge’s Comments. C. Parker’s George, cast to the right, running out wide, but made a good head in 3 min lOsec. The sheep split at the commencement of the pull, otherwise a good pull on a fair line, the sheep entering the ring at front in 2min 305<307? The sh£ep were out of the ring once, otherwise the ringwork was excellent. E. M’Lerthan's Thora. also cast to the right, running out well and headirtg in lniin 45sec. Made vfcry fair lift and commenced to pull well. Split sheep and pulled on good line to the ring. Entered ring nicely in front. Sheep out of ring once, but work here was very R. Wilson’s Mack, ran out very straight and fast, and headed in 3 min 2sec. Lifted well, but commenced to wallop sheep. Pull erratic, but pulled on fair line. The dog was well under command. The sheep entered the ring in front. Out of the ring once, but settled nicely.
