POL'CY OF UNION .AGAIN REVIEWED. BROADCASTING DISCUSSED BY RUGBY COMMITTEE. The notion of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union in deciding that the Radio Broadcasting Company should not be allowed to bioadcast Rugby games except aftei payment of a fee cf £SOO for the sea•v,,n was discussed at the half-yearly meeting of the Union last evening. The meeting went into committee, and on resuming in open meeting had nothing to report. The matter was brought up by Mr D. C. Harrison, who said that the main body of the Rugby Union had net had a vote on the question of broadcasting. He did not want his remarks to be taken as a vote of no-confidence in the Management Committee. The point was that the club delegates had had no voice. The chairman (Mr A. E. M’Phail) remarked that the question had generally been taken in committee and he suggested that if a perfect discussion were needed it could not be gained in open meeting. A motion to go into committee was carried unanimously.

PUSHING THE CLAIMS OF COUNTRY SELECTORS

The question of the appointment of selectors for the Canterbury senior representative team was discussed at the half-yearly meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. It was decided that the appointment be still made by the Management Committee, but that the sub-unions be asked to forward nominations, as had been the privilege of senior clubs in the city. The matter arose from a remit from the recent conference of sub-unions recommending that the Canterbury selectors be appointed at the Union’s annual meeting. The chairman (Mr A. E. M’Phail) said that years ago the selectors had been appointed at the annual meeting, but of recent years it bad been left to the Management Committee, which had more time to consider the matter. Whether the sub-unions’ delegates believed that the adoption of the remit would enable them to push the claims of some country selectors, the speaker did not know. The present practice prevented the sub-unions from nominating selectors, as was the privilege of senior clubs in Christchurch. Mr G. E. Wright (Malvern) stated that with a country man as one of the selectors he would not be able to assist in the selection of men from the town teams. The speaker believed that the aim of the sub-unions was to have appointed a man who would select the best players from the country. The machinery for selecting a properly representative team was in existence, stated Mr R. W. Britton. There was the Town v. Country and the Northern v. Southern Sub-Unions’ .matches, and from these it was competent for country players to be selected for the Canterbury representative team. It was stated that the selectors endeavoured always to see some of the countf-y matches. A motion by Hr W. S. Seed that the system of appointment remain as at. present, but that sub-unions be invited to forward nominations, was carried unanimously. MOASCAR CUP. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, June 17. In a match for the Moascar Cup Tc Aute 8. drew with Palmerston North High School 8. The match was played under extremely cold conditions, with a heavy cross-wind. HALF-YEARLY MEETING. The half-yearly meeting of delegates to the Canterbury Rugby Union was held last evening, the president of the Union (Mr A. E. M’Phail.) presiding over an attendance of thirty-five members. The chairrqan gave a brief review of the work accomplished since the annual meeting and stated that, in view of the financial depression, it had been decided to curtail the number of teams to travel. A question. Was to why . the Christ church-01(1 Boys rriafch for next Saturday had been changed to the Lancaster Park Oval, when the VarsitySydenham game had been chosen in the first place. It was explained that the change had been made before the draw had been submitted to the Management Committee of the Union. It was stated that Christchurch, in view of casualties, \ would have difficulty in fielding a strong
