SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. Mr and Mrs W. J. Kempthorne, Hornby, entertained friends at their home recently, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter. Myrtle. The room was decorated with cerise and lemon streamers. The evening w’as spent in competitions, games and dancing. The winners of the competitions were, Miss R. Tinnie, Miss M. M’Kenzie, Messrs J. Colenso, L. Colensc and A. Byron. Air J. Bainbridge supplied the music for the evening. During supper a golden key v’as presented to the guest of honour by her uncle, Mr J. Kempthorne. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs J. Kempthorne, Mr and Mrs F. Dale, Mr and Mrs E. Nottingham, Mr and Mrs F. Goodman, Mrs Kent, Mrs Mallet, Mr and Mrs C. Brown, Messrs W. Brown, A. Taylor and W. Kempthorne; Misses D. Kempthorne, M. Kempthorne, C. Lewis, E. Kempthorne, R. Tinnie, E. Tinnie, I. Lewis. M. M’Ker.zie, G. Brown, R. Kenworthy, E. Murdoch, Ellen Kempthorne, Edna Mallett and No!a Brown; Messrs J. Colenso, P. Kempthorne, A. Colenso, G. * Taylor, F. M’Kenzie, L. Colenso, R. Dale, F. Thorne, T. Taylor, C. M’llraith. L. Brown and Master Trevor Nottingham. Kitchen Evening. Miss Maude Hoare was the guest of honour at a kitchen evening arranged bv Miss Marjorie Turton, at her home, Slater Street. The popularity of Miss Hoare, who is shortly to be married, was shown by the many useful gifts she received. Competitions were held and musical items were given by the following: Misses Maude Hoare, Lily Robertson. Phyllis Coombs, Lois M’Kinley, Joy Trickett and Marjorie Turton. Those present included: Mesdames Hoare, Edwards, Turton, Trickett, C. Turton, Misses Maude Iloare, Josephine Mullins, Ethel Freeborn, Doris Wansbrough, Heatherbell Scott, Jean Jardine, Eileen Mahon, Lois M’Kinley, Joy Trickett, Madge Ebert, Phyllis Coombs, Lily Robertson and Marjorie Turton. Beekeepers’ Social. Delegates attending the annual conference of the National Beekeepers’ Association of New Zealand were entertained last evening by the Canterbury branch of the association. The entertainment took the form of a social held in the Tudor Tea Rooms. About 100 delegates and their friends attended. They were welcomed by the Canterbury representatives. Competitions and games were enjoyed. Among those who contributed items were: Mrs RE. Voller, Misses N. Partridge and A. Broughan and Mr N. Suckling. Miss Brouglian was the accompaniste.
