LOTTERY WINNINGS ARE NOT TAXABLE.
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrigh t.) (Received March 31, 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, March 30. In the House of Commons, Mr Pethick Lawrence, in answer to a question, said winnings in sweepstakes like the Irish Free State’s were not liable to income tax. Mr A. Short said: “It would not be in the public interest to state the number of letters opened and how much money was stopped with a view to intercepting subscriptions to the Irish sweepstake on the Grand National.”
