ST ANDREW S ARE ALL OUT FOR 109 RUNS.
WICKETS FALL CHEAPLY AGAINST TIMARU B.H.S. A slow wicket after yesterday’s rain and good bowling combined to produce slow scoring- in the opening stages of the annual match between St Andrew's College and Timaru Bovs’ High School on the former’s ground to-day. The visitors won the toss and sent St Andrew’s to the wickets. Fifty runs appeared after an hour’s play, four wickets (li°n being down. T. Wilson and Williamson each contributed useful scores, but it was left to Hartnell and Talbot to show bright, enterprising cricket in a stand for the fifth wicket, which produced 35 runs. Mach employed the. drive to advantage, while wristy cuts and glides were also The bowling was in the hands of M'Dougall and Mathews, who sent down nine overs each before Manning replaced the latter. Seventy-five runs went up after ninety minutes’ play. The bowling throughout was steady, and the batsmen showed an inclination to hit. this being responsible for the fall of several of the wickets. Manning, with slow left hand breaks, took two wickets in his fifth over, and at times was difficult to plat*. Seven wickets were now down for S 9 runs. Two more fell for the addition of six runs, and the last two men carried the total past the hundred. The innings closed for 109, the low score being attributed to the bowling of M’Dougall' and Manning. Scores:— Timaru commenced their innings after the luncheon adjournment, and two wickets fell cheaply, Manning being brilliantly caught in slips by Talbot.
