FEDERAL CABINET HAS DECIDED TO PAY DEBT.

SYDNEY, March 30. The Federal Cabinet have definitely decided to pay the interest due to Bri-

tish bondholders by the New South Wales Government, and to sue the latter Government for recovery of the amount in default, £729.251. The Commonwealth Government has been legally advised that it is liable for this sum under a financial agreement made with the States during the Bruce regime. According to the 4 ‘ Sydney Sun,” the Federal Cabinet to-day entrusted to the Prime Minister, Mr J. 11. Scullin, and the Treasurer. Mr E. F. Theodore, the finalisation of the Commonwealth Government’s decision on the New South Wales default issue. Mr J. A. Lyons spent the day in Sydney conferring with the leaders of the political parties, prominent public men and women, and businessmen, all of whom expressed cordial approval of his appeal for a united Commonwealth. He received hearty assurances of cooperation in any movement that ho may launch along the lines of his message to the people.
