MRS ORD MARSHALL’S DEATH.
(United Press Assn.—By Electrie Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, March 29. The death has occurred of Mr* Elizabeth Ord Marshall, C.B.E. Mrs Ord Marshall, founder and secretary of the League of the Empire, art educational centre for the organisation and interchange of teachers between the various portions of the Empire, has spent many years of her lifa in organising the teaching profession, improving its status, and providing benefits for teachers in the way of wider knowledge by travel abroad. The first conference of representatives of the Education Departments of the Governments of the Empire was held in London in 1907, and Mrs Ord Marshall's efforts were so much appreciated as to give her the opportunity of becoming secretary, a position she gladly accepted. There followed a conference of representatives of teachers’ associations, in 1912, and immediately after the war a conference of soldier-teachers. To each of these she devoted the whole of her time. Her duties in connection with the scheme for the inter-change of teachers took her to Canada for six months, where she organised the Teachers’ Union. Mrs Ord Marshall did much writing in support of her chosen avocation, and for many years edited the organ of the organisation, “The League of t Empire Review.” She contributed widely to magazines and papers. Mrs Ord Marshall, who was a daughter of the Rev R. S. Beloe, of Ilolton St Peter. Suffolk, was the wife of the late Mr William Ord Marshall, librarian at the War Office.
