LARGE AMOUNT OF LEVY STILL UNPAID.
STATEMENT MADE BY MINISTER OF LABOUR. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. March 31. The Minister of Labour to-day mad# a statement regarding the financial position of the Unemployment Board. The position at the end of last week showed that receipts from the levy to February 28 were £178,335. Receipts from the levy since March 1 were £49,645, making a total of £227,960. Expenditure and commitments were £380,070, less the subsidy to be received from the Consolidated Fund £191,035. The balance in the fund was £26,945. There was less than one week’s expenditure in the fund at the moment until the amcJffnt of the quarter’s levy which fell due on March 1 was paid. Up to March 23, £49,645, or less than one-third of the amount that reasonably could be expected to be collected had been received.
