ATTEMPT TO ROB BRANCH OF BANK
AMMONIA SQUIRTED IN MANAGER S FACE. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN. March 31. A branch office of the Bank of New Zealand was the scene of an attempted robbery this morning. Mr Thompson, the manager of the North Dunedin branch, went to the North-east Valley Office about 11.30 a.m. and was counting the money when there was a knock at the door. When Mr Thompson opened the door a man squirted a stream of ammonia in his face. The manager slammed the door in the intruder’s face and ran to the next door neighbour and ’phoned the police, but the intruder had disappeared. Mr Thompson suffered great pain from the ammonia, but it is not expected there will be any serious result. No money was secured by the iiv truder.
