RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION MEETS.
At the fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association the following members were present:—'Messrs G. A. Hayden (in the chair), E. W. Smith. H, W. Wilkinson, H. Iloldevness, G. Dabourn, A. L. Emerson, G. W. Lloyd, Rev F. T. Read, Mr E. L. Neale (Springs) and the secretary. A financial membership ladder received front headquarters showed the total strength of the associations throughout New’ Zealand at January 31 to be 9792. The Canterbury Patriotic Fund wrote enclosing a cheque for £250, being further grant from the National War Funds Council for unemployment relief. The report of the Benevolent Committee submitted by Mr Read showed that there was a decided falling off in the number of applications for assistance. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Hayden, Holclerness and Fleck, was appointed to w'ork in conjunction with the Social Committee in arranging for the annual Anzac reunion, which will be held in the Jellicoe Hall on April 23. The president reported on a meeting of the Anzac Day Committee. All preliminary arrangements were in hand for the annual memorial service, which will lie held in the King Edward Barracks on Anzac Day. It was decided that the date of the annual meeting of members Vie April 27 instead of April ?9 as previously arranged. The secretary reported that, at the
