OOL COMMITTEES’ ASSOCIATION MEETS.

The Canterbury School Committees’ Association met last evening, Mr J. G. Brown presiding. It was resolved that the executive be empowered to deal with and forward remits to be discussed at the annual meetings of householders next month.

A question was asked about the Unemployment Board’s schemes and Mr j. ,J. Harley, who is a member of the Education Board, explained that school committees could obtain any labour they required without difficulty. All they had to do was to make application through the Education Board, which made application to the local unemployment committee, undertook payment, of wages and eventually drew the money from the Unemployment Board.

Mr J. W. Preen (Timaru) referred to the association’s expressed opinion that the annual conference of the South Island School Committee's Federation should be postponed. Mr Preen said he could see that the association was a live body and it was time the executive of the federation was shifted to Christchurch. Re hoped that the association would send delegates this year. The chairman explained that the association had decided in view of present conditions not to send delegates, but there was nothing to prevent any delegate attending the conference if he so desired.
