MIGHT BECOME A CAUSE OF TROUBLE
VISIT OF ARCHBISHOP TO THE HOLY LAND.
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received March 16; 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 14. The Rome correspondent of “ The Times ” states that although the report that the Vatican formally protested against the Archbishop of Canterbury visiting Palestine, was incorrect, there is reason to believe that the Vatican conveyed certain considerations to the British Government. It recalled a previous proposed visit, news of which provoked the opposition of Roman Catholic residents of the Holy Land, and the project was abandoned. ! Such a visit to the holy places by the Archbishop of Canterbury would embarrass not only Roman Catholics but other Christian cults. The Vatican considers that nothing could be gained by changing the equilibrium which has been established, but does not see any objection to the Archbishop of Canterbury making a health voyage in the Mediterranean and visiting Palestine privately as an ordinary pilgrim.
