NEW ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE OPENED.

CEREMONY ATTENDED BY BIG GATHERING. Per Press Assorin Hon. WELLINGTON, March 15. In the presence of four thousand spectators Lord Bledisloe this afternoon opened the new St Patrick’s College at Silverstream. There was a representative gathering, including Archbishop Redwood, Archbishop O’Shea, the Prime Minister and other Ministers, the Chief Justice and other Justices, members of Parliament, the Director of Education and the heads of various other educational institutions. An apology for absence was received from Bishop Sprott. Father Dowling welcomed the guests. Archbishop Redwood, who. presided, gave a message of thanks and loyalty to Lord Bledisloe, who congratulated the Marist Fathers upon their achievement and expressed admiration for the building and its equipment. The new school stands in several acres of ground, the pleasant tree-stud-ded fields being backed by bush-clad hills. The building, a two-storey brick structure, designed according to the latest ideas and requirements of a secondary school, is equipped and furnished on the most modern lines throughout. The cost of the building was £76,000, and the whole cost, including the land, £IOO,OOO. The chapel is stiii to be erected from funds raised by old boys.
