DANCES.
CADETS AND FRIENDS AT NEW BRIGHTON.
The New Brighton Cadets Old Boys’ Association held a successful dance in the Masonic Hall on Saturday evening, a large crowd dancing to the music oi Ex-Band Sergeant N. Carson’s orchestra. Ex-Sergeant P. Doak was M-C-During the evening the president of the association, Captain A. P. Hopkins, V.D., extended a welcome to those present and outlined the objects of the 'association, which are, chiefly, to keep the traditions of the company alive. T\yenty : five new members were enrolled. The lucky spot competition was won by Mr J. Weir and Miss Chapman, and’ the Monte Carlo by Mr K. Bradbury and Miss V. Dixon. Those present included:—Mesdames R. Davies and H. Cardinal; Misses M. Turner, J. Napper, L. Dixon, D. Harper, M. Boyland, E. Boyland, J. Boyland, R. Olds, R. Ansley, G. Chaplin, E. Goodland, M. Norrie, C. Norrie, D. Bock, D. Cooper, M. Hampton, N. Broadley, K. Burns, E. Burns, N. Power, F. Power, P. Weavers, D. Muirson, A. Greig, N. Kennedy, M. Shearman, A. Nuttall, M. Campbell; Captain A. P. Hopkins, V.D., Sergeant A. A. Avis (president N.C.O.’s Social Club Ist Canterbury Regiment), Messrs Lightford, Scott, J. Glasson, D. Harper, J. Boyland, A. L. Stevens, P. L. Scott, L. Flowers, J. Flood, A. W. Leveritt. H. Cardinal, C. Cook, W. Jackson. M. Kinsman, F. Rae, K. Rondell, A. L. Hay, F. W. Doumergue, C. P. Rondel, E. Weavers, C. E. Philpot, D. S. Turner, A. R. Jones, W. Dawson, F. PREBBLETON RELIEF FUND. In an effort to raise money for the Earthquake Relief Fund the Prebbleton Womens’ Basketball Club, under the management of a committee comprised of Mrs L. Harris, Misses S. Cherry, E. Bennett, B. Hartnell, M. Smith and J. Smith (secretary), organised a successful euchre tournament and dance which was held in the Public Hall, Prebbleton, last week. Music was provided by Miss Nolan’s Orchestra. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Olive Thiekeld and .Mr J. Rogers. The winners of the Cinderella, dance were Miss Doreen Smith and Mr W. M’lntosh. In the card room prizes were won by Mrs J. Easterbook, Mrs Askin, Mr A. Giles and Mr G. Thompson. Prizes for the cards and novelty dances were given by members of the committee, Mr Kolkman and Mr Busch, while Mr J. Hill donated a quantity of ice-cream which was sold to augment the takings. Altogether the sum of £7 14s 7d was raised as a 'result of the dance.
