KING APPROVES OF NEW APPOINTMENTS
BARONY IS CONFERRED ON MR HENRY SNELL.

King has approved .the. following appointments:— Lord -Ponsonby to be Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in succession to’Major C. J. Attlee, recently appointed Postmaster-General. Mr Henry Snell to be Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the India Office, vice the late Earl Russell. Mr John Allen Parkinson to be Parlimentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, vice Lord Ponsonby. The New Baron. The King has been pleased to confer the dignity of a Barony of the U nited Kingdom upon Mr Henry Snell. The new Baron, who is a bachelor, has had an interesting career. He was born in humble circumstances, his parents being agricultural labourers. After attending the village school he began life as a farm worker. He was afterwards a groom, ferryman and postman, but continued his education at Nottingham University College and later at the London School of Economics and Heidelberg University. He has always taken a deep interest in social questions and became a welhknown lecturer on Labour and religious matters. Sincie 1922 he has been Member of Parliament for East Woolwich.
