THEFT CHARGE BROUGHT IN ASHBURTON COURT.
(Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON. January 0: A middle-aged man. Patrick M’Anelly, appeared before Mr E. F. NicolL, J.P., in the Magistrate's Court to-day on a charge that he received from Ellen Whiting, of Maronan, the sum of £2 16s 6d on terms requiring him to account for the money to Thomas M’Gill Sim. but failed to do so, thereby committing theft. Senior-Sergeant Martin asked for a remand to January 16, and the request was granted. A first offender for drunkenness was convicted and discharged and ordered to pay two shillings taxi hire.
