INSULATOR ” REPORTS ON S.W. BROADCAST.

An Interesting- Week. Following Is “ Insulator’s ” report on reception of short wave broadcasts during the past week. He writes:— “ The past week has been one of the most favourable lor y.W. reception for some months, a record day being experienced on {Saturday, when sixteen different countries were logged on telephony. The total comprised the following countries: Africa, England, Holland, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Morocco, Indo-China, Siberia, Philippine islands, .lava, Australia* U.S.A. Costa and Argentine. The following stations have been logged during the week, given in order of wavelengths:— “PLE, Java, 15.74 metres, and PCK, Holland, 16.3 metres, most evenings on duplex after £». Two others also heard on same waveband, but unidentiiied. W2XAD, New York, 19.56 metres, clear and RS at 7.30 a.m. Wednesday on music. XDA, Mexico City, 20.5 metres, clear and R 6 on speaker same morning at 7.35, with news in Spanish. WMI, Hew Jersey, 20.5 metres, and GBW, England, 10.7 metres, loud on Saturday at 7.30 a m. on duplex telephony. Rabat, Morocco, 24 metres, and FTN, Paris, 24.5 metres, very loud every night after 10 on two-way telephony. PLW, Java, 24.5_ metres, about R 3 on Saturday at 11.25 p.m., working Sydney and playing records. WBXK, Pittsburgh, 25.20 meti'es, every morning at 7; best on Thursday, with instrumental music. 3RO, Rome (now believed to have changed call to I2RO) good spealcei strength every morning from 7. Excellent music after 7.30 a.m. GSSW, England, 25.53 metres, very patchy; generally suffering from bad surging. Hearc from 7 a.m. GBP, London, 27.8 metres, and VKJME, Sydney, 28.5 metres, both very loud every ‘evening on duplex. LSX, Buenos Aires, 28.98 metres, clear and R 6 Saturday at 2 p.m., on music. NRH Costa Rica, 30.5 metres, R 3 only on Saturday at 3.20 p.m. with records. PCJ Holland, 31.28 metres, R 5 at 6 a.m Saturday. WIXAZ, Springfield, U.S.A, 31.35 metres, very loud 5 p.m. Thursday, with New Year celebrations. Zeesen Germany. 31.38 metres, R 4 on talk and music at 6.30 a.m. Saturday. W2XAF, New York, 21.4 metres, very loud, from 5 p.m. Friday, with New Year celebrations—first in New York then in

Chicago at 6 p.m., Denver City at 7 p.tn., and San Francisco at 8 p.m. VK3ME, Melbourne, 31.55 mtetres, very loud with records and news at 11.20 p.m. Saturday. VK6AG, Perth, 41.5 metres, good speaker strength 6 a.m. Thursday, on special New Year programme. Moscow on 45.4 metres, very loud at 6.20 а. Friday, with mostly talk. Few musical items. Good speaker strength. GBS, London, 42.9 metres, and WND, New Jersey, 4 4.4 metres, both very loud at 6 p.m. Thursday on duplex telephony. VE9CL, Winnipeg, 48.5 metres, clear but R 4 only, on Thursday at 5.4 5 p.m. on music. KIXR, Manila., 45.8 metres, loud every night except Monday, on either band music or records. Saigon, Indo-China, 41 metres, good R 9 on Saturday at 11.30 p.m. with talk and music. W2XE, New York, 49.02 metres, relaying jazz from WABC every night till б. W3XAL, New Jersey, 49.18 metres, good speaker strength every night till 6 on dance music. W9XAA, Chicago, 49.34 metres, RS at 8 p.m Sunday on special international programme. W9XP, Chicago, 4 9.83 metres, best on Sunday with jazz music at good speaker strength till 8 p.m. from Hotel La Salle, Chicago. RVIS, Khabarovsk, 70.2 metres, R 9 every night after 9, with talk and music. “ Verification of reception has been received from Siam, the letter reading as follows: “‘I beg to acknowledge receipt of letter of October 18. and write to thank you warmly for the report you have kindly sent in connection with the reception you made on October 11 of our transmission from HS4PJ. On the day in question, we wtere testing our radio telephonic communication with New York and Washingon, and am glad to say that the final result was most satisfactory, although some fading was noticed from time to time’.” TO-NlQiirs CONCERTS.
