BRITISH MERCHANTMEN CAPTURE PIRATES.
NAVY CALLED UPON TO ARREST CAPTIVES. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) HONG KONG, January 5. Two British merchant ships played a part in a pirate drama on Sunday, north of Bias Bay. There they found pirate junks attacking other junks. The steamers Hang Sang and Soochow joined forces and manoeuvred, rounding up the pirates. Meanwhile, they sent a radio message for assistance. H.M.S. Somme arrived, arresting twelve pirates, who are now en route to Hong Kong. Captain Kelman, of the Hang Sang, states that he heard firing and cries to save life when near the junks. He at once gave chase, threatening to ram the junks, which frantically endeavoured to escape. The Hang Sang and Soochow assisted, both steamers encircling the prey until the arrival of the warship. There were no casualties.
