SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
New Year’s Eve Dance. Under the auspices of the Heathcote Club, a very enjoyable dance was j held in the club hall on New Year’s Eve. There was a large attendance, and at midnight the New Year was ushered in to the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.” Dancing was indulged in till the early hours. Mr J. Wyman and partner won the lucky spot waltz. Music was supplied by Teddy Jones and his band. Mr W. Wilson was M.C. Birthday Party. On Saturday a pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr J. W. Norton, 53, Hawdon Street, Sydenham, to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of Miss Elsie Fisher, sister of Mrs Norton. The evening passed all too quicklv with music and games. Mr F. Beckett entertained the guests with sleight of hand and card tricks. The dining-room was decorated with streamers and balloons. Mr Beckett presented Miss Fisher with the customary key. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs J W. Norton, Mr and Mrs W. Beckett. Mr and Mrs P. Poulton, Mrs Anderson, Mrs Mobbs, Misses W. Stevens, I. Stevens. L. Collins. A. Kerr, K. Piper, N. Beckett. Messrs F. Beckett, L. Piper, G. Hill, R. Dixon, N. Cother, H. Phillips, D. Fisher (Dunedin), W. Stevens.
