A report from La Rochelle states that drastic measures to combat “ the disastrous, immoral consequences of modern indecent dances ” have been taken by the Prefect of the Department La Vendee. All dances open to the public will be under police supervision, and nobody under the age of eighteen may attend a public ball. The rules prohibit “ noises, profanity and invective in dance halls.” There are set hours within which dancing is legal, and a special authorisation is necessary for masked balls. The Church is co-operat-ing.
