STRANDED MEN PUT CASE BEFORE CONSUL.
Members of the crew of the Norwegian freighter June who are stranded at Lyttelton had a meeting this morning to collect evidence to be submitted to their solicitor, preparatory to a further interview with the Norwegian Vice-Consul, which is expected to take place to-day at Lyttelton. After the meeting one of the men informed Press representatives that they had done nothing to be ashamed of, nor had they committed any breach of the maritime laws, otherwise their arrest would have been ordered. After a conference between the crew’s delegates and their counsel, Mr Hunter, Mr Hunter stated that the men contend that there is no strike. The services of the men having expired according to the articles, they hold that they are entitled to from £2O to £45 per man in addition to one month’s pay, and to be sent back home. This statement will be comnfunicated to the June’s agents.
