FROCKS AT ADDINGTON.

The first clay of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting, at Addington, was held in perfect weather yesterday. A gentle breeze tempered the sunshine, the gardens were bright with flowers of every hue. the lawns made a pleasing background for many pretty frocks, and the newly-cut hay in the centre was an ideal playground for the babies and little children, whose mothers were content to spend a holiday there with them, while paterfamilias “ backed his fancy.” Probably owing to the holiday season, very few women attended the meeting, but crowds of men enjoyed a good day’s racing. Red frocks were most in evidence, the next colours in favour being delphinium blue and a soft apple green. Many frocks were worn very long, with cavalier capes or deep shoulder collars of a contrasting shade. Georgette and crepe de chine were the materials used when self-colours had been chosen; and ninon, for the floral and patterned designs. These were seen in tones of yellow, green, brown and blue, all blending together. Black toilettes were distinctive and many smart tailored suits were worn.

Hats of summer-weight felt in pastel shades toned -with the frocks; and many appeared very large and floppy after the close-fitting shapes which have been so long in vogue. Many gay parasols were to be seen and a few chintz and cretonne coats.

Mrs W. T. Franks, wife of the president, was not present. Among the people noticed on the lawn and stand were Mr If. S. S. Kyle, M.P., and Mrs Kyle, Mr and Mrs F. W. Johnston, Mr and Mrs R.
