PUPILS GIVE A DANCE RECITAL.

Aliss Iris Alontgomery and her pupils entertained a large audience at the Radiant Hall on Saturday evening. Items were also given by Aliss Lucy Cowan and her pupils, in conjunction with students of drama from the All Arts Club. The frocking, both attractive and uncommon, was tasteful in its splendour and showed up to perfection against the more sombre hangings of the stage. The frocks worn by Miss Alontgomery were particularly striking. In the “Danse de Pretresse” she wore a Benares silk sari, while in the Polish festival scene, a brilliant black and red Huzaar uniform, with realistic gold braiding, suited her to perfection. In this number the senior girls wore Russian peasant dresses and the juniors smart white costumes trimmed with white fur and jaunty red shoulder capes and red boots. In the “ Pas de Trois ” uncommon ballet frocks were worn of chartreuse green tulle with gold tissue bodices and large petunia tulle bows at the waistline and the shoulder. In the novelty tap dance Aliss Alontgomery wore a short fuchsia taffetas coatee banded with eau-de-nil taffetas, and a bright green wig. Aliss Lucy Cowan, who made her appearance in the “Christmas” number, wore a brocade frock, patterned in a deep rose, orange and black design. The skirt was draped to one side and finished with a diamente pin. A hyacinth blue crepe de chine frock , was worn by Aliss Nell Gillespie, and a lemon floral frock with a wide brimmed leaf green hat looked dainty on Aliss Elsie Rutter. Particularly beautiful were the frocks worn in the Spanish scene. Miss Adele Wellard King, wore a gold tissue frock with a bouffant skirt composed of violet tulle frills. Aliss Alontgomery’s frock of black taffetas and lace, with brilliant beaded motifs, showed up well against the picturesque dresses worn by the ballet. There was a scarlet and white frilled taffetas frock with a red bodice and red hat; an apple green taffetas worn with a black lace mantilla; a lilac taffetas with a green shawl; a while frock, the narrow frills of the skirt being edged with cerise; and a brilliant marigold taffetas frock, ths frills shading from gold to deep orange. A white feathered frock brought great admiration from the audience, as also did a leaf green georgette frock representing “spring.” i Of the frocks worn by the smaller pupils, the most outstanding were a shell pink ballet frock with a tulle skirt and silver and pink rose on one shoulder, and a hyacinth blue frock with a taffetas skirt and satin bodice and a circlet of tiny silver leaves in her hair. In the ballets, the frocks worn by tiny tots in the “Goblin Blues” were very fascinating. Their leaf green fitting suits, black witches hats and bright red gloves* looked most uncommon. Pretty sap green satin frocks were chosen for another ballet, the skirts being draped to one side and finished with a fall of black lace heavily sequinned.
