MR LANG PROPOSES FURTHER TAXATION.
GOVERNMENT MAY TAKE OVER ALL ABATTOIRS. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, November 28. In the Legislative Assembly, the Supply Bill for £13.246.000 was passed. The Premier, Mr J. T. Lang, announced that the Government were considering taking full control of the city abattoirs and meat supply for all time. A Betting Tax. The New South Wales Labour caucus to-day approved of plans to impose a tax of 10 per cent on winning bets and to raise the wages tax for unemployment from threepence to one shilling in the £. *lt is estimated that the betting tax will yield an annual revenue of £2.000,000. It will be deducted by bookmakers from the sums payable to their clients, and a similar deduction will be made from totalisator dividends. It is expected that the tax of one shilling in the £ on salaries and wages will yield over £6.000,000, which, with the betting tax, will make £8.000,000 N.S.W. INCOME TAX BILL EXEMPTIONS INCREASED (Received'November 29, 10 a.m.) CANBERRA, November 29. The Income Tax Assessment Bill was amended in the House of Representatives to provide that exemption on incomes from property, instead of disappearing on incomes of £4OO and over, will not now disappear till they reach £6OO. The amendment was made in response to pressure from the Opposition. An amendment was also agreed to providing for exemption of shareholders from the special super-tax of Is 6d in the £, chargeable on the property portion of a company’s income and imposed also on dividends from an income on which the company has already paid super-tax. These concessions amount to £650,000. The Minister for Home Affairs (Mr Blakeley) announced that the Governjment had approved of an art union to * provide relief for unemployment.
