YOUNG THIEF REMOVES CLUE.
HEARD DESCRIPTION GIVEN TO POLICE. There was a peculiar aspect about a theft which came under the notice of Mr H. P. Lawry at the Children’s Court this morning. “ The boy who stole the overcoat actually came with the owner to the detective office when the complaint hras laid,” said Chief-Detective Carrol. “He heard the coat being described to the police. There was a special tag mentioned, and he went straight home and tore it out of the coat.” The Chief-Detective said that three boys had been camping at a picnic resort, and one had stolen another’s overcoat. The thief wrapped it away in his pack. Later, he was seen wearing it, and admitted the theft. “ He is nearly seventeen, so it is little use placing him under supervision,” said the Magistrate. “ I will adjourn the case for six months, during which time he is not to go out at nights without permission. Lack of control seems to have been the main trouble.
