FORMER ATHLETE. MR ANDREW SHAW, DEAD.

(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, November 27. The death occurred suddenly at his home at Buckland on November 24 of a former athletic champion, Mr Andrew Clark Shaw, a son of the late Mr and Mrs T. Shaw, who were settlers at Clevedon. Mr Shaw was born sixty-five years ago on the ship, Viola when his parents were on the way to New Zealand. He lived at Clevedon till about six years ago, when he took up a farm at Buckland. Mr Shaw was interested in all branches of sport and distinguished himself both on the running track and Rugby field. At one time he held the Australasian one mile running championship, and he also was a noted performer over the small battens. He was a member of the first representative Rugby team in Franklin and gained representative honours for several vears. In later years he took an active part in bowling, and at the time of his death was a member of the Puikekohe Bowling Club. In his younger days he took a keen interest in military training and held a captaincy in the South Franklin Mounted Rifles. lie is survived by Airs Shaw, three daughters and four grandchildren.
