BOARD CLERK GUILTY OF FAILURE WITH BOOKS

Per Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, November 27. “ Guilty with a very strong recommendation to mercy in view of his unbusinesslike methods of handling money and his general lack of ordinary precaution to keep a balance.” Such was the verdict returned against Donald Alexander Stewart, formerly clerk to the Normanby Town Board, who was indicted originally on twent}'nine counts, with receiving between April, 1527, and June, 1930, various sums for the board and fraudulently failing to enter in the books material particulars of moneys credited to the board’s account by the Treasury and Public Works Department. Two counts were withdrawn. The Chief Justice deferred sentence till Saturday, saying that the recommendation had everything to support it.
