Preparations are almost completed for the Merivale Parish fete, to be held to-morrow in the adjoining grounds of Messrs Peter Wood, E. H. S. Hamilton and F. W. Hobbs. A tennis tournament will be played on three courts, and a miniature golf course has been laid out. There will be a great number of well-stocked and attractively decorated stalls, and afternoon lea and strawberries and cream will be served. A very pleasant afternoon was spent on Tuesday at the Selwyn Free Kindergarten, when Miss Tabart addressed * the mothers and committee on “ Buying New Zealandmade Goods”. Miss Tabart stressed the necessity for everyone insisting on New Zealand-made goods, as this would greatly help to obviate the serious question of the present unemployment. Mrs Parlane, in the absence of Mrs Hamblin, thanked the speaker her address. Afternoon tea was then dispensed. _____________
