LEARN TO SWIM WEEK ” TO BE DECEMBER 15-20.

A meeting of swimming centre delegates and representatives of swimming clubs, the Royal Life Saving Society, schools snd surf clubs was held last evening with the object of making arrangements for “ Learn to Swim. Week.” Mr S. Hollander was in the chair. Mr Hollander explained during the “ Learn to Swim Week ” last year there had been too many pupils in the Tepid Baths for one instructor. He suggested that a fixed method of instruction be adopted. Last year vanous strokes had been adopted with the result that confusion resulted amongst pupils. If outside baths could be used, it should be possible to teach more pupils to swim. It would be necessary to get the permission of the City Council tor the use of the Tepid Baths. It was decided that a meeting of instructors be held on December 8 so that a system of instruction may be drawn up. It was decided that the City Council be written to, asking for the sole us© without charge of the Tepid Baths between the hours of 5.30 and 6.30 p.m. Mr T. Donnelly moved that the maximum number of pupils in the bath _be limited to forty an hour. The motion was carried. In connection with the outside baths, the various committees are to be notified as to the arrangements. When there are baths but no swimming clubs, i the instructors at the nearest clubs will be informed. It was decided that “ Learn to Swim Week ” will be held from December 15 to December 20.
