HORTICULTURAL TRADE SETS UP COMMITTEES.
The annual meeting of the Canterbury Council, New Zealand Horticultural Trades Association, was held in the Chamber of Commerce last evening, Air J. M’Beod presiding. There were also present:—Messrs George A. Green (Dominion organiser) and Messrs A. VV. Buxton, C. Gibbons, W. T. Thompson, \V. I>. Grant, G. J. Macdonald, C. H. Reece, A. H. Shrubslia.il, W. Wickens. M’Eeod. . , The Dominion organiser reported on the various activities of the Dominion Council, and gave details of the arrangements for the united conference to be held in January next, and drew attention to the necessity for a. more extensive advertising scheme for the Dominion. , _ It was decided to apply for affiliation to the Christchurch Chamber of Commerce. Various remits to be discussed by the Dominion Conference were passed. The annual report stated that, in common with all other industries, the trade generally had suffered somewhat in consequence of the world-wide financial and economic depression. In conjunction with the local council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, the executive was endeavouring to raise the status of the industry by taking fuller advantage of the educational facilities obtainable at the Technical College. bv adding to the number of the students already attending, and also to the number of subjects taught.
