“FULL FINE FOR FLOUTING COURT.”

BENCH DEALS WITH MAN WITH LICENSE CANCELLED Remarking that he had never yet im,posed anything btit the maximum penalty of £lO on - drivers flouting the decision of the Court by driving after their licenses had been cancelled, Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., fined Frederick Robert Waller, of Palmerston North, £lO and costs in the Rangiora Magistrate’s Court to-day. Defendant was also fined £lO and costs (£1 2s) on a charge of failing to report an accident. Charges of failing to maintain his position before turning and driving in a dangerous manner were withdraw by the police. Sergeant Cassidy, who prosecuted, ' said that on the afternoon of August 17 defendant drove his car along Wales Street, Rangiora, and on turning on to the East Belt knocked a youth off his bicycle. The youth was and his machine damaged. After hitting the boy defendant swerved against a heap of drain-pipes, the property of Alan Moore, the contractor for the borough drainage S3 r stem. Defendant had no license, it having been previously cancelled by a North Island Court. Mr Reid, who pleaded guilty on behalf of defendant, said that, as the boy was not injured, defendant did not think it necessary to report the accident. Instructions had been given for the repair of the cycle, and the contractor would be compensated for damage to the pipes. Defendant had no real excuse to offer, and, in view of the fact that defendant had since been severely punished in the North Island for a similar offence, counsel asked that a light penalty be inflicted.
