MAY TAKE CONTROL OF ST HELENS HOSPITAL.
(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, November 20. The proposed assumption by the Auckland Hospital Board of full control of St Helens Hospital at present conducted by the Health Department, has met with the approval of the Hon A. J. Stallworthy, who made a special visit to Auckland yesterday to consult the board on the matter of congestion at the hospital. The Minister intimated that he was prepared to agree to certain conditions demanded by the Hospital Board, particularly with regard to the introduction of sliding fees for medical and nursing attention, with the result that the board is now in a much better position to come to a decision on the question of taking over and running the hospital on a payable basis.
