MASTER BUTCHERS ATTACKED BY STRIKERS
ATTEMPTS MADE TO STOP KILLING IN COUNTRY. (United Press Assn.—By Electrlo Telegraph.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, November 25. Serious disturbances occurred at the country centre of Aberdeen, when the master butchers began work at the local slaughterhouse in order to provide meat for city consumers. One man was severely punched and kicked and another was stoned. A large body of police is now affording protection. It is expected that there will be similar disorders at other centres where killing is in progress. Local police accordingly have been strengthened. Government Control. The latest development in the meat strike is the proposal by the Labour caucus and trade union representatives that the Government should control the metropolitan meat industry. The idea is to vest control of all slaughtering at the city abattoirs in a meat board which will also have charge of the distribution of supplies to retail shops. These functions are at present carried out by a group of carcase butchers, some of whom raise their own stock and conduct many suburban shops.
